Happy Australia Day

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY 2016

Visiting Port Douglas, or fortunate to live here and be celebrating Australia Day?  Either way, you have a choice as to how to spend the day.

Of course, you can stay at home and throw a prawn on the barbie, not a bad idea at all in Port Douglas and surrounds, where prawn trawlers still operate.  Or a snag, or lamb chop if you prefer.  Some salads and tropical fruits from the Mossman Saturday market, under the raintrees, or the Port Douglas Sunday market overlooking the inlet will round off the meal.

Or head into Port Douglas, where live music, a pie eating contest, thong throwing comp and an Aussie pavlova bakeoff will be part of the Great Australian Bites  event produced in partnership with our local Douglas Shire Council will be held in Rex Smeal Park, overlooking the Coral Sea from 11 a.m. till 3.30 p.m.  Al fresco dining choices too including Aussie pies and lamingtons! http://qld.australiaday.org.au/whats-on/great-australian-bites/

Other local establishments are holding events as well.  QT are hosting an Aussie barbeque, and over the Daintree River, the Cow Bay Hotel celebrations include the Ride-On Mower Grand Prix.

Wherever you might be,  we celebrate the diversity and cohesion, and security of living in Australia, and in particular the beautiful area of Port Douglas and surrounds, Tropical North Queensland.
