I have just gone to add a post on Cote Nord Property Port Douglas's Facebook business page. Facebook asks, before I post, "What's on your mind?
Post TC Jasper and the massive rain event that followed, and two days (apparently!) before Christmas, the basic answer is, "Plenty!"
The Port Douglas area was very much impacted, with damage to different areas varying in scope. My heart goes out to those in Mossman and Wonga, for example, whose homes were flooded, are now uninhabitable or requiring significant works, and whose possessions are now parked out on the footpath to be collected and dumped. I'm not sugarcoating that, and I acknowledge their distress.
Power cuts, no water supply, and major damage to the Cook Highway have been significant obstacles, the latter not yet, understandably, resolved. I acknowledge the huge efforts being made to repair these services.
Having said all that, the community spirit has been amazing, proving yet again that this is a fantastic place to live.
The sun is out again, with power and water, restoration can commence.
I understand none of the properties the agency has listed have sustained damage.
Please be patient and if you can offer your support to the Port Douglas area,
and Far North Queensland more generally, that would be very much
appreciated.
